Experimenting with different flavours using Capsul'in empty coffee capsules
We love flavoured short blacks and instead of adding syrups you can now achieve your favourite flavour by using Capsul'in empty coffee capsules.
For a no fuss delicious fresh roasted flavoured coffee, roasters like Coffee Works or coffee shops like
Cruze Coffee offer flavoured coffees ready to go. Ask your local roaster if they do flavoured coffees and give them a try.
Making your own flavoured coffee at home
Cafe Mocha: add a small amount of sweet cocoa powder before adding the coffee into your empty capsule. After a few attempts, I was able to produce a chocolaty espresso.
Arabian Shot: add a small amount of powdered cardamom before adding the coffee to your empty capsule. This espresso had the hallmark of the coffees you get in places like Dubai.
Espresso Chai: mix separately a small amount of powdered cinnamon, clove, ginger and nutmeg. Tip a small amount of the mixture in your empty capsule and add your espresso ground coffee. My Chai Espresso was simply perfect.
Vanilla flavour: prepare a small mixture of coffee with vanillin sugar and place mixture in your capsule. You are now ready for your vanilla shot!
I sometimes insert a tiny slither of a fresh vanilla pod in the capsule instead of the vanillin sugar. This will generate a richer aroma but a weaker vanilla taste.
Zesty coffee: add a small amount of grated lemon zest to your capsule. Complement with a dash Liquore Strega.
These are only a few suggestions - there is no limit to the flavours you can extract using different ingredients. Experiment a few times to achieve the right consistency and balance.
